Why do you need a magazine to know about an MMO when there is google?

Magazines still have cover articles and exclusive interviews/features that are worth reading. The free mini-pet giveaways from 2 I mentioned are also worth a good example.
I also want to point out that Beckett is great for going into detail with the games on current developments but also does strategy and other stuff in featured titles, but it's got too much WoW favoritism.

That one is alright to say the least, it doesn't really cover games in-depth past news, updates etc etc.

You have a point there, but for the free mini-pet giveaway I walked into Bestbuy grabbed the PCgamer mag and took a pic of the code with my phone returned the mag on the stand and walked out, I later read the article online .

That was the full gw issue wasn't it? Wonder why you would pass up a collectible?

Hah. Luckies. I didn't start playing until about a month after that, so I missed out. But I do vouch for PCGamer as a source of MMO info. They just ran a 4-page article on MMOs, though it didn't talk about GW at all. A couple months ago they did a thing analyzing non-WoW MMOs - pronounced a death sentence for WAR and AoC, talked about GW in fairly glowing terms, though they were off on it a little - talked about how awesome the EotN armors were (rerereRESKIN! although some of them were pretty cool), warned that you couldn't EotN unless you were lvl20 (which hasn't been true since what? 3,4 months after release?) and said the characters all looked the same (riiiiiight. we only have what? 3x as much customization as, say, WAR or WoW?) Computer Gaming World (later Games for Windows) was a great source - ran an MMO column called Crisis on Infinite Servers - until they suddenly died.
Speaking of which, does anyone remember who the girl was that wrote that after Sean Molloy did? And does she have a blog, or a page on 1up or something? That column wasn't big on the news, but it did provide a fun perspective on MMOs.

Pirates to say the least. I feel sorry for anyone who bought those issues thinking they were able to gain anything.
